PRESENTATION /
CV in brief
I am a zoologist interested in behavioural ecology and evolution of Hymenoptera, particularly solitary and primitively social wasps and bees, with special focus on resource specialization, nesting patterns, evolution of cooperation, and morphological adaptations to different life-histories. I graduated in Natural Sciences from University of Milan (Italy) in 2001 and completed a PhD degree in Natural and Environmental Sciences from the same institution in 2007. Before PhD degree I obtained three pre-doctoral fellowships, two at University of Milan and one at University of Salamanca (Spain). After the PhD degree, I obtained five post-doctoral contracts. The first two (2007-2009 and 2009-2011) were funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, and were carried out at University of Milan. In late 2011 I obtained the third post-doctoral contract (2011-2014) funded by the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the European Social Fund (ESF), that was spent at Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (CSIC) (Madrid, Spain). The fourth post-doc, from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), was spent at the University of Lisboa during 2015. From december 2015 to september 2020 I had the fifth post-doc, funded by the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) and ESF, and spent out at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Campus de Toledo). From october 2020 I am Associate Professor at the University of Milan (Department of Environmental Science and Policy-ESP). I was also granted with mobility funding under the Synthesys Program by the European Union (3 times), under the Invited Foreign Professor Program by the University of Valencia (Spain) (3 times) and under the mobility program of the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (1 time). Since my graduation, I published >90 papers (75% since PhD degree) in international peer-reviewed journals. I am the first author of about 50% of the papers and corresponding author of abut 60% of the papers. Along with journal articles, my scientific production is completed by the publication of 6 book chapters and 1 book for which I was the sole editor. I presented my work in many international and national congresses. I have partecipated in >15 projects within competitive programs from Italian, Spanish and German public agencies and from European Union, summing overall >400.000 € funding. During my career, I completed the supervision of 4 PhD students and >10 Master students. My teaching activity includes lectures in zoology and behavioural ecology. I have acted as referee for >20 international journals, I have reviewed projects submitted for funding to the Czech Science Foundation (GACR),the National Science Foundation of the USA and the Fondo para la Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (FONCYT), and I was invited to give talks at various european institutions, as well as plenary lectures in international congresses.
